Rave on, move on

A retrospective look at this week

Some of you may have guessed, and some of you know, that we have not been aboard Epiphany for a week. She has been moored at, and watched over by, the Retford and Worksop Boat Club (RWBC) at Clayworth. Thank you folks!

We have been down south, staying with our friends John and Carolyn. The main reason being this -

Umbrellas and stage

For the uninitiated, the village of Cropredy, on the South Oxford Canal, hosts the Fairport Convention Festival each year: a wonderful family festival, with many who attend camping in and around the festival site. There are also narrowboaters who fill the Cropredy moorings for the duration!

This year it rained, as it did two years ago when we were there last! However, it was a really good time and we enjoyed meeting up with other good friends who were moored there. Jon, our boat builder was also there and we were able to assure him we still thought that Bath Narrowboats had built us a great boat (on a "Coley" shell).

So now we are back on our much loved home, turned around and heading for the Trent. On our journey to Drakeholes today we had sun and showers. We had to avoid a fair number of "floaters" and were amazed at the number of narrowboats on the move on the Chesterfield Canal.

I managed to get  photos of the man's face on Man Face Bridge (or Lady's Bridge or Old Man Bridge - take your pick!). You can just make it out despite the weathering.

This was when the sun was out - lovely countryside:

fields and sky

We moored up at Drakeholes, before the Tunnel, in the sunshine and showers. Once the rain finally left us, I wandered up and over the south portal to take some photos. There are interesting remains there - but I shall explain tomorrow!
