Thatcham in the rain

For once the weather forecast was right. It is belting with rain and has been all morning!

We decided to stay put for the moment - it is supposed to clear later

We went into Thatcham yesterday afternoon. We were going to catch a bus but couldn't work out which bus stop to wait at so eventually we walked slowly into the town centre.

As we arrived it began to rain, a real cloud burst that was streaming off the roofs, along the gutters and laying on the roads. We sheltered as best we could but still got rather wet!

Thatcham is not the most interesting town, lots of new developments, a small shopping arcade, a Waitrose and a Co-op. Around the Parish Church, St Marys, there are what remains of the old village.

Once the rain stopped the sun peeked out and we wandered into the church. It is an interesting church, some modern additions and a peaceful atmosphere.

I loved this altar frontal in the Chamberhouse Chapel in the South East corner

Lack of church hall meant that the back of the church has been made into a meeting room and gallery on top. It looks as if they have all the necessary facilities and that it is a fairly lively church!

We did a bit of shopping at the Co-op and caught a bus back to the boat, tired and ready for our meal!

Now I am doing hot dogs and onions for lunch and then maybe we will be on our way again this afternoon, even if wet weather gear is called for!
