One boat's length .......

4 hours 3 mins, 5.08 miles, 7 locks, 2.98 l/mph

It poured with rain in the night. We were moored under some trees and the sound of rain dripping on the roof as well as dropping, was enough to give me a disturbed night.

Never mind once we were ready for the off the sun was shining. LOL

Kintbury lock first. We have decided BW is running a Bank - this is the second instance we have seen!

Hole in the wall

As we approached Dreweat's lock (79) the Kintbury Horse Drawn Boat was exiting the lock. A lovely sight.

However John could'nt get more that a few of the passengers to reply to his "good morning everyone", despite telling them that that was not good enough and trying again.

Copse Lock (80) is a strange lock - well shaded, entered on a bend and then the River Kennet joins from the left. If it is in flow it can be very tricky. Not today though.

The A34 towers over the canal after Higg's lock (83) and then it is one more lock and Newbury encroaches on the canal. Another trip boat Avon met us as we approached Newbury - engine powered this time.

We tried mooring before the swing bridge at West Mills but our stern would not go in and the visitor moorings were full. So we continued through the swingbridge (operated by BW key and windlass) and moored on the moorings just before the lock.

In March we turned just past the bridge in the winding hole but we are now "one boat's length" into NEW TERRITORY for Epiphany. Celebration time.
