Crofton to Great Bedwyn

1 hour 36 minutes, 1.72 miles, 4 locks

We were both so tired last night that we were in bed by 9.30pm! We both slept well, waking at 7 am. My usual  alarm time - Der brain, no more work and its Saturday anyway.

A few boats moved before we did, as we had a few things to do. When we were finally ready to go there was a boat coming up Crofton Crossing lock (61) so we slipped in.

It is a day for 28 degrees, with a breeze to relieve the heat. Very pleasant. Only 4 locks today and all set for us. At Bedwyn Church lock (64) we met a boat poling backwards into the lock. Once they were settled we went in. Did they have a problem? No, only that they had run out of time to get to their destination of Bristol. They had decided to turn around and had to go back to below the lock to the winding hole. I don't think they had the hang of reversing on the engine! Hence the poles.

We are moored in front of Trevor on nb Beau as he came down earlier, half on the 48 hour visitor moorings and half on the 14 day. Does that mean we can stay for another 24 hours

We passed our replacement on the mooring at Pewsey just above Bedwyn lock. Ailsa Craig Too - shorter than us.

This afternoon we wandered into Bedwyn, had tea and yummy cake at the Church and then wandered back via the towpath. I then went back to pick a litre tub of blackberries. We picked up some free windfalls at one of the locks so there is a blackberry and apple pie and crumble waiting in the firdge to be cooked later this evening when it has cooled down. Maximum temperature outside at lunch time was 37 degrees!
