Chelsea Flower Show Gold medal for a canal lock

This morning a Leeds and Liverpool Canal lock received a gold medal!

OK - it was a "mock up" of a lock and it is at Chelsea Flower Show! However, hopefully it will bring a new audience to the canals as the Leeds City Council (LCC) promotes its green spaces. Is there a BW bollard there, or a "no fishing" notice or even cill warnings on the gates? Have BW missed a trick and not negotiated some BW "presence"?

The LCC website all about the garden (including all the above links) is here - clickety click. Explore it if you are interested in plants and more information. Congratulations to Leeds and all who worked on the garden.

As I write this I recall a recent report that was about de-stressing and ways to relax.

One of the top suggestions is to walk or excercise near water as this has been proved to help reduce stress. So us narrowboaters, who frequently walk the canals and who take our exercise working locks and moving our narrowboats, must be the most de-stressed in the land!

Yeah, right! In all weathers!

Perhaps we ought to start awarding medals to the real canal locks - from gold to iron! Any suggestions Folks?

P.S. BW have regretably announced (through NABO) the need for restricted lock opening hours on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal with immediate effect, due to water shortages- clickety click
