Macclesfield Canal - Higher Poynton

We just had to cruise today!

It was the only way to keep cool! What a few days, the temperature has been up in the late 70 degrees F or if you can understand  centigrade - 28 degrees! Half of Epiphany was in the shade in the morning but by the afternoons we were looking at the upper 80s indoors!

Where we were moored was much quieter - we were the southern side of the winding hole.

It is in this weather that we are so glad that we have porthole glass that can be removed completely. With two swan doors open and the bow doors too, once the cratch cover is rolled up we get a breeze through the narrowboat. Phew!

Needless to say there are a few Braidbar built narrowboats moored on the permanent moorings. These are on-line and on pontoons, quite a stretch of them to pass!

We left them all behind and after the next bridge (Smiths Bridge 14) there were more, including this well kept mid cockpit wooden cruiser. Lovely.

Even the winding hole before Bullocks Bridge (13) had narrowboats moored in it!

We were wondering if we would ever get above tick over!

Soon we were approaching the old arm, High Lane Arm which is now North Cheshire Boat Club. There are visitor moorings beyond the arm.

The Arm was built to serve the coal mines in the area. I was lucky enough to get access to the Arm to take photos of some of its unique features. look out for the blog, coming soon!
