Just to say

Before we finish with Macclesfield (not the canal yet!)

I have now uploaded all the photos from the three museums in Macclesfield!

The Silk Museum is larger than the Heritage Centre and is a good follow up to our visit to Paradise Mill. Some of the silk products exhibited there are lovely, others very intricate.

On show are silk maps, silk commemorative ribbons and even silk postcards. Double sided weaving was invented in Macclesfield. The airmen could fold away the map of France and smuggle it into enemy territory as an handkerchief - after they had jumped and parachuted in with their trusty silk parachute.

If this has wetted your appetite have a look at Macclesfield Silk Museum - clickety click and Macclesfield Heritage Centre - clickety click  which was once a Sunday School that educated the mill children until they entered the mills at about 8 years old.
