Hello again

A favourite mooring

Continuing our journey downstream on the Llangollen Canal we made for a lovely mooring out in the countryside. It was not far from Chirk Bank so we had a late-ish start!

The moorings by the Poachers Pocket pub at Glenrid were amazingly empty - not a narrowboat to be seen! This was where we waited for our delivery from Tesco on our way up.

Around the corner there are some "unofficial" moorings (but stay away from the cottage!) which would be my preferred moorings if stopping there for a pub meal!

The gardens at Rhoswiel Bridge (18W) had become very pretty since our up stream trip - the bridge is pretty ugly though!

We began noticing a familiar weed, or the new shoots of one, that sends real feelings of dread on agriculturists and gardeners. We had a fight with it in one of our gardens in Cornwall but managed to rid ourselves of it over two seasons. Have you guessed what I am talking about yet?

Watch out BW, you need to get on the case with this one! Catch it now and you might have a hope in controlling it.

Once past the noisy A5 road at Moreton Bridge (17W), the canal leaves the Rhoswiel cutting and becomes pretty again. Watts Dyke is north and south of Preeshenlle Bridge (15W) and St Martin's was just visible on the hill as we reached bridge 13W - St Martin's Moor Bridge. Just after this bridge, the cottage owners make it pretty clear that they do not welcome moorers!

However, we were making for the open countryside before New Marton Locks - one of our favourite moorings! We needed to remember that we were facing SE, not NW this time, as below!
