Preparations for off!

Not long to go now!

Bank Holiday weekend in late August is traditionally wet. However so far it looks as if it might be OK here, at least. Yesterday I was off work as I have some leave to take before I finish next Thursday and the weather was glorious.

However it was baking and washing day - a lemon spongeand bread. I make my bread by hand, unlike some we got rid of our bread maker! It is a great stress reliever to batter the life out of  dough and also we are hoping to have the time to do it regularly.

I washed our bungs - portholes in the bedroom need more than curtains as the morning light wakes me too easily and in the winter the bungs in all the portholes help keep the warmth in. In the summer we don't use them as privacy with portholes is much better than with windows!

John cleaned the chimney and the Morso squirrel stove and apart from replacing the liner of the chimney with an empty catering size baked bean tin we are ready for the cold weather.

We just need a week or two of settled weather do do a little painting so hopefully September will deliver that, or even October as the weather then can be really good.

So we will be off on our travels soon - hopefully with the car sold, anyone want a Renault Laguna automatic?!
River Thames here we come, we have to off the K& A by the 28th September as County lock will be closed then!
