Cropredy Festival

This weekend it is the Fairport Convention Cropredy Festival at Cropredy near Banbury. Cropredy is one of our favourite canal villages, we visit fairly regularly by car but so far only once by boat  - in Twelfth Night, our share boat.

Our home "base" will be near there once we start continuously cruising and we have friends in the area. Cropredy gets "taken over" by music fans during this festival, camping, staying locally and eating the breakfasts locals provide to the visitors. We have never been there at Festival time but this year we will - we have tickets for the Festival!

Unfortunately we will not be going by boat and in fact if we had we should have set out ages ago to ensure a mooring! No we are going by car, staying with our friends and attending to listen to the music as much as we are able. There is a good line up and I hope the weather stays fairly reasonable. Although being boaters we will go prepared for all eventualities!

I have been listening to Johnnie Walker in the mornings - I love it when Wogan goes away as Johnnie does his show. I was sooo glad when he returned to BBC Radio 2 after his health improved as I was a real fan of "Drive Time" when he did it. It helped me relax on my way home from work. The Cropredy Festival has had a few mentions and Johnnie even said he might go!

I have been a Johnnie Walker fan for many years - ever since Radio Caroline days when I listened to him broadcasting from the ship on my little transistor radio in its brown leather case. Ah, nostalgia. We had no thought of the internet or even DAB in those days! Somehow we have lost the romance of radio I think. I love Johnnie's choice of music and his wonderful radio voice and listen to his Sunday show when I can too. He has some very interesting guests. However I have never plucked up courage to email or text in to the show I seem to remember that he has an interest in narrowboats, I have heard other boaters contact him on the show! Maybe one day.

The traffic news has also featured Cropredy as yesterday they said that it was very congested by people arriving at the Festival. I hope it is not too bad tomorrow! We shall be there until Sunday and will go to the "Festival Service" in Cropredy Church too. I see from Warrior's blog they are attending, are there any other bloggers out there who are too? We shall have to take a wander down the towpath sometime and see who we can spot. "Banter" time? Comments please!
