Off the Kennet and Avon for a few days

We have been off on our travels! By car unfortunately.

First to Reading to pick up Craig. As his train was late we did a bit of river watching. This is one of our favourite spots to stop ever since we lived in Reading just before we got married.

Caversham Bridge

We then went on to here.

Caversham Lock

As I have expressed a vague unease about the Thames and its locks John took me for a look to inoculate me!

From Reading we all travelled to Crawley to spend a couple of nights. On Saturday we picked my sister Lois up at three Bridges station and tootled down to Lewes in Sussex. We had a big family gathering to celebrate my brother's birthday. It was great to see my brother and his wife, my nephew, his wife and my two grand nephews. David, Ruth, Phil, Mol, Dom and Nathaniel in that order! Of course they are John's nephews too, by marriage! We also caught up with others of our extended family, related by blood and marriage, Shelly, Andrew and Meg. There I have named you all! It was quite a do! Great food and lovely company.

The hotel there is becoming quite familiar as Phil and Mol had their reception there, David and Ruth celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary there and now this celebration!

After tea and wonderful cake we tootled back to Gatwick to let Lois catch the train and we returned to Crawley for the night.

Today we took Craig back to Reading for his train to Lancaster and guess what we went looking for boats again! We called in to the Thames and Kennet Marina, being nosy! Then we went to find this lock.

So who can identify it? - answer tomorrow plus more photos!
