All is not as it seems

A stormy night

The wind and the rain lashed us here in Birmingham last night. We bumped around on our pontoon in Cambrian Wharf on the BCN! Maybe our ropes were a bit loose, but it is the first time we have had water, not ice, completely surrounding us for nearly four weeks. There has always been a bit of ice around even after the "halo" effect of the boat warmth melted an inch or two around the hull.

We woke to clear pontoons and towpaths - all the snow has gone and looking out of the bow we saw this

Ice melting

Ahh - but the eye deceives! There is water certainly and a lot of it, but .....

Nb Witchcraft set off for the water point and discovered that it was not all water, even under the water there is ice and great big thick blocks of it - as we suspected! He managed it on full throttle with one or two reverse manoeuvres.

Reversing back a while later his propeller threw up some blocks that were at least four inches thick. So discretion being the better part of valour we decided that the excursion was not for us today!

We had a visitor for lunch - Stephen our Vicar friend from Netherton. We are off to the "Recreatio!" concert at the Town Hall  this evening - and he is singing in it! He is one of the singers in the "New English Orchestra (NEO) and Singers". A review will follow......
