Blogitis?

A new disease to beware of?

Blogitis - now, is that the addiction to blogging or the affliction of a lack of things to blog about? I am not sure, but in any case sometimes just a photo will do! I will try and give you "value for money" today, though!

In this cold weather I have been reviewing our warm weather cruising and the warmest time I remember of last year was on the Lancaster Canal in June. It is then that all our portholes glass came out, we had all the doors open - swan doors included, cratch cover up and the evenings were light and drawn out.

yacht overtaking usThe day of our Ribble Crossing was perfect

The yacht overtook us on the River Douglas - we were not in a race though! And when we got to the top of the staircase of three locks on the Link -

Our trip on the Ribble Link is here - Tarleton to As(t)land Lamp, and here - River Ribble to Savick Brook, and here - Savick Brook and the "new" locks and the last bit here - Staircase Locks and the final frontier.

Lancaster basin mooringsLancaster - at last an ambition fulfilled!

The moorings in the Basin are very convenient for the city centre. When we arrived they were 14 day moorings - the next day they were changed to 7 day moorings! We had a wonderful time in Lancaster. There is much history to explore and all within walking distance.!

Onwards and "upwards," towards the head of navigation at Tewitfield, we passed some well known landmarks.

Hest Bank - shame there are no visitor moorings with a good view! This was the view of Morecambe Bay, looking down the road which leads to the Railway Halt

There is a good Tesco at Carnforth and the railway station is worth a visit! The Visitor Centre is interesting, have a look at the website and see if you can spot my photos!

Capenwray ArmThe Capernwray Arm - wonderful moorings

There was a woodpecker pair nesting at the bottom of the Arm and when we moored there, on our return, we managed to spot it. It is very quiet and secluded but we only had an ovenight stay.

at end of navigationTewitfield - finally!

Of course we had to take Epiphany right to the head of navigation, so this is John reversing her right up to the end! We do hope that one day the Northern Reaches Locks and the canal beyond, all the way to Kendal, will be restored. What a fabulous trip that would be!

Ahhh ... memories!

So do I have Blogitis? Now that would be telling!

Oh, and by the way - the Lancaster Canal Trust are appealing for digital photos for some new publicity material. Have a look here,  if you have some good ones!
