This feels like Christmas!

Birmingham has a German Market each year

Its full name is Frankfurt Christmas Market and Craft Fair and it brought back memories of my German trips when I was a child!

It stretches from Broad Street, through Chamberlain Square and Victoria Square and then trails down the centre of New Street. The sounds and smells are wonderful and the lights at night make it seem magical. The market is the largest authentic Christmas German Market outside Germany or Austria.

There are eateries and bars in Victoria Square and New Street. The bars were the most popular stalls of course - selling German beer and spirits, their famous spiced wine, Gluwvine (Oh yes I love that, but not on an empty stomach!).

The stall holders travel over from Germany and have done for the last nine years - Birmingham is twinned with Frankfurt.

Chocolates, pretzels, hot chestnuts, gingerbread, German biscuits and cakes are on sale - too much to take in and very tempting! We succumbed to some gorgeous chocolates!

The lights combine with the brightly lit stalls with turrets, bells and even a large singing moose (I maintain it is a large reindeer, but John thinks it is a moose!) to give a lovely atmosphere. Guess what the moose is singing in rather a nice bass voice - "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas". Appropriate now, but I think he will have to dream for Christmas!

There are stalls with scarves, hats, mad hats, jewellery, anything to make you spend your money - it is so enticing!

Sadly yesterday was the last day so you will have to come next year - it is worth the trip!
