A good meeting place for boaters

I suppose this could be called an advertisement!

Our trip from Cross Green on the Staffs and Worcs Canal and up from Autherley Junction on the Shropshire Union Canal skirted the urban sprawl that is Wolverhampton.

I only know Wolverhampton from the lock flight up into the centre from Addersley Junction and the train station which is a frequent change for us when we travel to Banbury.

However, Wolverhampton has a Boat Club, reachable by train (Bilbrook Station) and bus, by car and unsurprisingly by boat! We stopped there back in the Spring and were welcomed warmly by some of the members to the bar in the club house!

It is an attractive location - the bridge narrows the canal and once past, there is an old crane. All is very well looked after by the club.

So where is the advertisement, I can hear you asking. Here goes -

On Saturday 21st November at 10.45 the National Association of Boat Owners (NABO) is holding it's Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Wolverhampton Boat Club.

If you arrive half an hour earlier there is coffee on offer!

A buffet lunch is provided (donations towards the cost welcome!) and after lunch it is time to meet Richard Fairhurst, Editor of Waterways World in an informal meeting.

Members of NABO will elect the new Council for the next year and also will be able to quiz them from "the floor".

We shall be there - on Epiphany - and if other members who are boaters would like to moor at the club, please contact Peter Wood to arrange it. Come and make yourselves known to us - we love meeting our readers!

Oh - and if you are not a member, there is still time to join before the meeting and have your say - have a look here for details
