Paired Locks for paired boats

Home again!

After our quick trip south we returned to Epiphany at lunchtime today. All was ship-shape! Our boat sitters (Derek and Dot from Gypsy Rover) had been great and even offered us a couple of cuppas on our return which was very welcome!

It seems to be unseasonably warm and as the sun was shining we decided to move off to make the most of the afternoon. Ha! - just as the engines started it began to rain; still it was good to be moving.

Elton Moss is a pretty part of the Trent and Mersey Canal and Elton Moss Boatbuilders were just around the corner. They had a number of boats moored on line just past the wharf.

The canal is a little bendy as it winds around a hill and we were surprised by the number of boats that were moving. The towpath is in pretty good condition but this took a bit of working out!

The rain stopped as we approached Wheelock and its two locks. Before the locks is a sani-station and we took advantage of the services to "empty and top up".

From now on - for a while there are paired locks. Sadly not all the pairs have both locks working, but when they do there is scope for two up, two down or one up as one goes down or vice versa of course - hee hee!

Gypsy Rover came up the left lock a little after us. Once up I could see that the next pair has only one working lock. John went ahead to set it.

We moored up just past the railway bridge - glad to stop now and have a relaxing evening!
