A Tunnel, then another, then another!

Phew! A three tunnel day, and all different!

Now we were on the Trent and Mersey, the views and feel of the canal changed. First we had to negotiate the three aforementioned tunnels, Preston Brook, Saltersford and then Barton.

Someone told me that "pictures speak louder than words" so here we go!

Oh - I forgot to mention Dutton Stop Lock and the Dry Dock after it! There was a queue for the lock both ways so it was one up, one down!

Following this we had some fabulous views of the River Weaver and the countryside around (I will put up the photos another day). Another few miles and we came to Saltersford Tunnel where we had a much shorter wait  for passage - it is also on the half hour going south, but with a 20 minute window, as opposed to the 10 minutes allowed for Preston Brook Tunnel.

We walked over Barnton Tunnel when we travelled North, and you can see the tops of the ventilation shafts and the rather worrying tunnel subsidence.
