The Real Thing!

An update from the "laid aside" Epiphany Blogger!

I will return. By hook or by crook I will! The substitute Blogger is doing so well, I might be out of a job otherwise.

Sorry guys, only for tonight, as my wonderful husband has brought in the laptop so I can catch up on emails, blogs etc. So this is the lastest from the HRI, ward "X", bed 8 bedside chair!  Photos prohibited!

Hospital gossip;-

The 86 year old dancer (still dancing prior to admission) in the next bay has finally gone home to her husband of 64 years - what a record!

The lady in the bed next to her has also gone, along with her 7 children, grandchildren, husband, cousins and nieces. A family of over a 100 when they all get together! It made for very noisy and busy visiting hours when they visited in shifts!

The dear old lady, who gets lost on the ward and can also get very stroppy with the nurses, came over to me this morning, as she thought it was my birthday as I have lots of cards!

The feisty lady had a stand up fight with the night nurses at midnight - she had been told she could go home. Unfortunately this had not been documented and she had to be forcibly dissuaded from leaving in case she bled all over the place at home.

A very vocal, opinionated lady has given her bedfellows (and the rest of us) the benefit of her nursing knowledge, ailments, family history, expertise in Child Protection and political opinions - all in the two days since she began to recover from an op.

The girl in the next bed to me spent 7 weeks in the HRI last time she was in - and I am grumbling at 2 weeks! The good news is that she found time to get married between admissions.

And finally - an astute lady loudly voiced the sentiments of all us twelve inmates, "I hate this b..... place" ......... but at 3 O'clock in the morning!

It is amazing how much you learn by "default" in an open ward, as no conversation is completely private. The whole female "world" is spread out around me!

I have the weekend to glean more fascinating stories - EDD is Monday evening or Tuesday, by which time my home will have moved 3 times! John will have had some help from some amazing friends and I will be absolute desperate to be cruising again!

So now I must say an enormous personal thanks from me to all those who have been keeping up with my progress, praying, thinking of me and almost as importantly (!) acting as crew and companions for John - home alone!

Back in harness soon I hope!

Oh - and here's a picture of home:
