Falcons are cool

The Royal Armouries Museum at Clarence Dock in Leeds has a menagerie - I really admired the falcons. Here is a photo-fest of falcons!

Minnie the Merlin, small but beautiful. Is she fond of mice?Merlin

Chinery the Kestrel, a common falcon, but prettyKestrel

Foxx the Saker Falcon, a bit of a silver foxSaker falcon

Bomber the Merlin (I wonder why he got that name!)Merlin

Roger the restless Lanner FalconLanner Falcon

Squeak the Harrier Falcon looks a bit of an handfulHarrier falcon

Two owls observe all this from behind the wire!

I forgot to take this one's name but he looked pretty laid back!owl

But I love Bungle the Eagle Owl's beady eyeEagle owl

A Falcon flying display by the Armouries resident falconer demonstrates the ancient art of hunting with these magnificent birds - it costs a £1 and is put on most days.
