From Canal to River in Leeds

Liverpool to Leeds - done it!

We moved down onto the River Aire this morning, as we fancied a move! This section through the two locks passes Granary Wharf.

The canal is lined with old warehouses, either modernised or in the process of being modernised. There is also a lot of new building going on at Granary Wharf.

This was the sight that greeted us as we left Office Lockleaving office lock

Looking back - the people on the bridge wanted to know about buying a "barge"!looking back at lock

(She thought £30,000 for a second hand boat was a lot of money!)

Ahead of us was River Lock, leading down to the River Aireriver lock ahead

The BWB Group warehouse, on the right side of River Lock, was the terminal warehouse of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and built in 1777.

How sad to see the graffiti on what once was a proud declaration of dedicationplaque

River Lock (1) dropped us 11 feet into the River Aireriver lock

We had reached the end of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal - the longest in the country. Liverpool City (because of the new link, from the city centre) to the centre of Leeds, through some wonderful countryside.

We looked back at Granary Wharf and said a silent farewell to the L&L!looking back at Granary Wharf

We were now on the River Aire, but still in Leeeds city centre!

A new experience so a new blog to come! To be continued ......
