We cross the River Ribble again

On Sunday we had a really good day

We walked up to Britannia Bridge, 2 locks from our mooring in Wigan on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, as we were catching a bus to St Mary's Church, Ince. The Vicar there is David Long, another canal enthusiast. John had "spoken" to him over t'internet and wanted to meet him and attend his church.

It was pelting with rain by the time we got to the bus stop. The Church was two bus stops along but we were glad for the ride in the dry! St Mary's is a modern church built to replace the one over the road which suffered from mining subsidence.

We enjoyed the service and meeting David and some of his congregation. David built "Wizard" which we had spotted near Stockton Heath, on the Bridgewater Canal, way back in May. She is used for community groups and we learned some tales from a Church outing a few years back!

A very kind member of the Church, Jim, gave us a lift back into Wigan as we had a train to catch. The rain had passed by now and the sun was trying to come out.

A train to Lancaster - here is where the crossing of the River Ribble comes in as the train goes over it before Preston! Once "over the other side" we could easily spot the Lancaster Canal and recognise where we had been, suffering from nostalgia in the process!

We spent some time with our son Craig and we alll had a lovely meal at Greaves Park - very reasonably priced and with excellent company! It is great to still be in striking distance of Lancaster so we can see a bit more of Craig.

Monday is a heavy day so I was glad to get to bed once we got home - too much yummy food!
