From "Ship" to decapitated Windmill at Parbold

We move on from Ship Bridge to meet fellow Bloggers on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal

We like the mooring near Ship Bridge as it is very quiet. It is good to be out in the countryside after so long in Liverpool. I am a country girl at heart!

We stopped for diesel (65p/105p)at Red Lion Caravan Centre just before Scarisbrick Bridge 27A (opposite the new marina). Red Lion do Calor gas (£19.00), chandlery and diesel and the man was very friendly and chatty! Caravans may be the main business but they definitely "do" boats too! We rang Scarisbrick Marina ahead but they were not willing to supply diesel unless we had a problem at Red Lion!

There are 3 swing bridges (SB) before Burscough - the first one, Glovers (33) is open and not to be touched!notice

New lane SB (32) was where we moored on our way down, outside the Farmers ArmsFarmers Arms

As we arrived it was closing. The people from Cruiser Caro-liner were very kind and reopened it for us! There are some lovely canal cottages beside the bridge.

At Crabtree SB (32) John got off to open the bridge. There is a pub and moorings here tooCrabtree

Pretty soon after the SB we arrived at Burscough - about 15 minutes later than we had said, but our fellow Bloggers were patiently waiting for us. If I say their boat is Gypsy Rover many of you will know who I mean! Of course we had a "banter". Derek and Dot are on their way down the Liverpool Link so were happy to pick our brains! We reciprocated by asking about the Maccy and their experiences in Portland Basin area! We really hope you guys enjoy the Liverpool Link as much as we did!

We topped up with water at Burscough and continued on our way to Parbold.

I had a tear in my eye as we approached the junction with the Rufford Branch!Junction Bridge

I happened to be steering at the time and Epiphany definitely wanted to go left - I have a light hand on the tiller and she took over! I just had to take our last photo of "the way to Lancaster by boat" - next year maybe!

After the Ring-o-Bells Bridge (34), there are 3 boats that have sunk. We did not think it was a good place to moor as the channel was a little restricted, or could possibly be for a wide boat.

Just one more SB (Spencer's 36), which I did and we neared Parbold (of the decapitated windmill fame!).

We could see the hills and Catholic Church aheadParbold

We moored by Parbold Bridge 37D and wandered into the village for a top up shop and my prescription which was ready and waiting! Now the sun is out, it is very warm and we have a day or two to chill!
