Time to move

"It's not the leaving of Liverpool ....."

How many times have boaters said or sung that since April (when the Liverpool Link opened)! We shall be singing it today. Yes Folks - we're off!

Although we have really enjoyed being here we have itchy feet again, so are glad to be going. I am sure we will be back, as the whole experience has been really good. The horror stories that we have heard about rubbish, yobs etc have not been our experience and we would recommend the trip to all. After all wherever you go nowadays there is always a risk of idiots trying to be "clever".

So now we have the whole of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal ahead of us - from the southern "head" to the northern junction with the Aire and Calder, truly from Liverpool to Leeds!

I leave you with some photos of the Port of Liverpool Building on The Pier Head. The architect's design was one of the failed entrants in the competition to design Liverpool Cathedral - remember it was won by the 22 year old Giles Gilbert Scott!

The main door to the POL Buildingdoor

I wandered inside as a workman came up to me as I was taking photos and said it was really worth a look inside and I could go in as far as the dome. So taking my courage in both hands and my camera I did just that! I have a theory that if you look as if you know what you are doing you rarely get challenged! But I think that anyone can do as I did, as it was obvious I was just there to take photos!

It was amazing - all in marble!

I was confused when I came out as there are 4 exits (I think) and I went in one and came out another. Looking up at the dome is a little disorientating!

Around the dome under the first floor is the quotation, "They that go down to the sea in ships that do business in great waters, these see the works of the Lord and his wonders in the deep (from Psalm 107 v. 23), plus the date: Anno Domini MCMVII. This is a well known verse from the Bible that sums up the experience of many mariners.

We are not off into the deep but we are still seeing "the works of the Lord" on our travels!
