Salthouse Dock, Liverpool

Some useful facts about mooring in Salthouse Dock

moorings

The moorings are very central and despite the main road and all the tourists, fairly quiet. Over the last few days the majority of the boats that were here have gone. There are only 6 of us left!

There is still no electricity or water connected to the pontoons. The services are “ready to go” but according to the local BW man the Utility companies are the problem! The electricity service points are installed at each berth. The taps from these are missing and need to be replaced.

However water is available in Albert Dock, and boats can cruise there between 1pm and 6 pm. It is a question of finding a vacant slot that has water on the pontoon moorings. We have seen narrowboats on these pontoons and by the Tate.

Boats can also cruise further down the south docks between these times. We have seen one or two doing this to charge their batteries! There seems to be no problem with running engines and the rubbish is collected every morning around 8am.

There is no Elsan or pump out, but if it is an emergency I think something can be arranged via the Harbour Master. There are good toilet and shower facilities in the corner of Albert Dock. The BW office is also situated in Albert Dock.

Every half an hour we are rocked by the Yellow Duck Marine Tour DUCW as it splashes into the water at the slipway adjacent to the pontoons with orchestrated screams of delight from its passengers!

The bus station is just over the road, as is Liverpool One, a large shopping centre. There is a Tesco Express about 5 minutes walk away and lots of the “sights” are within a six minute walk! The Post Office is in WH Smiths in Liverpool One and they accept Post Restante mail.

We have had to try and plan a sightseeing “diary”, as there is so much to do! We could be occupied morning, afternoon and evening if we wanted to. So we have worked out our priorities and I will let you know how we get on!
