The Liverpool Link - Canning Dock to Salthouse Dock

Canning Dock and Albert Dock - the final part of the Liverpool Link

After turning into Cannning Dock from Mann Island Lock (6) we passed two more Graving Docks. These docks were where the "Slavers" (slave ships) were repaired and so are a reminder of part of Liverpool's past that we should learn lessons from: as is the Slavery Museum - but more of that another time.

These docks are working docks and frequently used by sea-going vesselsCanning Half Tide Dock

If this is so, narrowboats can be held up on temporary moorings to allow passage of the ships.

But we were to turn left under Hartley Bridge, into the well known Albert Dock.

We had to wait as two boats came out on their way back up the linkWaiting for Harley Bridge

On our right we could see the Piermaster's House and the Tate Gallery in Albert Dock.

We then entered Albert Dock and it all seemed a bit familiar from the TV programmes we used to see broadcast by Granada! Fred's weather map is no longer there of course, but there are plenty of boats. The Dock is lined by shops, cafés, the Tate Gallery and the Slavery and Maritime Museums.

There were warning signs still up so we were a bit cautious!

We have since discovered that these stay up all the time as most days divers are down here for some reason! So we had arrived and made our way to our berth on the left of Salthouse Dock beyond the Waterscape pontoon.
