The Liverpool Link - Princes Dock to Canning Dock

The Liverpool Link - the really new bit!

The very modern Prince's Dock Footbridge EE crosses the dock and then we arrived at Prince's Dock Lock 5.

This is a brand new lock set out from the dock sides and inaccessible to the general public.

We dropped down the lock to enter St Nicholas TunnelSt Nicholas Tunnel

The tunnel leads to the well known Pier Head of Liverpool and the Liver Basin. At the Pier Head stand the buildings known as "The Three Graces". As we emerged into Liver Basin the first "Grace", the Royal Liver Building, is revealed alongside the canal. Next to it is the Cunard Building (second "Grace") and the canal plunges into Cunard Tunnel.

As Cunard tunnel emerges into Museum Basin, we could see the Port of Liverpool Building (third "Grace") and the nearly completed Museum of Liverpool.

There is a third tunnel known as Museum Tunnel beneath the Museum. The Mann Island Basin area is still being developed and at the end is the final lock:

We had a very small drop as there was no high tide! Bottom GatesBotttom gates

This lock has flood gates in case of high water levels in Canning Dock. I managed to help with the gate and then crossed the top gates for John to pick me up from the steps.

We turned into Canning Dock and we were in the last Dock area.
