A chilling couple of days

Relaxing in Lancaster

The weather this weekend has been really lovely - hot and sunny, defying the forecast for rain in the late afternoons! In fact it has been rather too hot for me, so I have been glad to spend it relaxing.

Saturday we had some more family business to attend to but after that was finished we sat in the White Cross pub (towpath side of Friarage Bridge 100) for a drink with Craig before he disappeared with his friend, Paul!

We had been invited for a cup of tea by Richard and his wife from the Lancaster Canal Trust. Richard kindly picked us up and took us to their home and really lovely garden. We had a good time catching up on gardens and the Lancaster Canal and enjoyed their hospitality very much.

Yesterday was a "day of rest". Canadian breakfast in bed - well for John anyway, as I decided it was easier to sit in the saloon and eat mine.

We walked the short walk to St Thomas Church in Penny Street. It was a communion service but very lively and we came away having enjoyed a very good, if long, sermon on the first chapter of Genesis.

We had arranged to meet with Craig for "afternoon" Sunday lunch at the Penny Street Bridge, just on the corner by the canal. So about 2.30pm we wandered over and chose a nice quiet table. As it was such a sunny day all the "eateries" with outside tables would have been really busy and it was nice to be in the quite calm of  hotel-type surroundings!

We had a nice meal and the company was great!. As usual we ended up having a mind expanding discussion leading on from the morning's sermon with Craig's philosophical/mythical slant and knowledge of Babylonian gods!

We then went back to Epiphany for raspberries and Cornish clotted cream - Rodda's of course!

Craig stayed the night so today we were able to have some time with him - just chilling - although John spent a fair bit of time on re-sealing the shower tray which had sprung a leak, as they do after a while: preparation is everything.

We needed to do a shop, so we went to Sainsbury's. Craig called himself a cab and we said our temporary goodbyes. John and I traipsed back to Epiphany after our shop - weary and a little poorer - yet richer for time with our son.
