The Northernmost Blogger?

A question for you - where is the furthest north a narrowboat can go on our English inland waterways system?

Without being lifted out, and travelling exclusively on canals and rivers, it is Tewitfield on the Lancaster Canal. You may have just guessed by now that I am writing the blog from there!

We left Carnforth this morning and travelled what I think is the prettiest part of the "Lanky". The canal winds along through fields and gentle rolling hills in a very intimate way.

In parts the canal is very shallow and also narrownarrow and shallo

A short "new" bit of canal was cut to accommodate the motorway without having to build a more expensive long skew bridge and it certainly does not "fit" with the feel of the rest of the twists and turns!

The Capernwray Arm looks a lovely place to moor

At Borwick is Borwick Hall, an Elizabethan Manor House built around a 15th century defensive Peel Tower. Charles II stayed here in 1651 and it is now a conference and education centre.

By the bridge is this building - can anyone enlighten me?By Borwick Bridge

Three more bridges to go before Tewitfield - Sander's and Taylors Bridges are close to each other and make an attractive sight.

We passed under the final bridge on the navigable Lancaster Canal - Old Turnpike Bridge and emerged to see a new marina and holiday homes still being completed. There were only three boats in the marina!

We were nearly at the head of another navigation! - yes there is more to come ......
