Rufford and its surrounding towns

We went on an outing today. We took a bus trip to Ormskirk. Why Ormskirk?

Firstly, we needed to do a bit of food shopping and there is a Morrisons there.

Secondly, we wanted to have a look at the Parish Church, as it is one of only three churches in the country to have a tower and a spire.

The bus goes through Burscough, which has a Tesco very near the canal - note to selves, useful when we go down to Liverpool and are back on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal Main Line.

Ormskirk has a number of shops, lots of charity shops and hardware stores and a few clothes shops. The indoor market there is nearly shut down but there is supposed to be a good market on Thursdays and Saturdays!

We wandered in and out of the shops that interested us, had some lunch and made for the church.

It has the tower and the spire but what it doesn't have is enough moneyshorrt of money

We might have been able to do our bit - if the church had been open. "Everyone is welcome", but only when we say so! Surely opening the church everyday would help?

There is a modern building that houses a coffee shop and the parish office. On enquiring if we could see inside the church we were told that it was only open on Thursday afternoons. Even the person managing the office could not let us in. Once again we were saddened and disappointed to come across another "by appointment only" church building.

Gripe over!

We came back by train, via Burscough again, by this time very wet, as whilst we were in Morrisons the heavens had opened and had not shut by the time we got back to Epiphany. Ironic phrase - that "heaven was open"!

We were looking forward to having guests - Dave and Heather from Takey Tezey came to sample my cooking. I took the easy way out and used bought lasagne and made a salad! Still we enjoyed their company again as they experienced the limits of a narrowboat in comparison to their wide boat!

Once again the rain has arrived and I can finally get this blog up after a slight glitch in the software for uploading photos to our gallery!
