Epiphany in Wonderland

Red Brow Underbridge to Daresbury - 0 hours 40 minutes, 1.2 miles, 0 locks

After a lazy morning we moved a short distance. We wanted to visit Daresbury.

Daresbury is the birthplace of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson – known to the world as Lewis Carroll.

The sun was out but it was rather windy as we moved two bridges!

This tower has been on the horizon for a couple of daysKeckwick Hill Bridge 4

It is the tower of the laboratory at the heart of the Daresbury Science Park which borders the canal and spreads across the road to Daresbury. The large complex is near to the rerouted A56 which has also returned the last bit of the country road to Daresbury to lane status.

The walk to Daresbury Village is about half a mile up a gentle hill. It is hidden away in a dip off the A56. The Church, All Saints, is also well hidden by trees and bushes that surround it.

Lewis Carroll was born in the VicarageAll Saints Vicarage
  - not this one, but in an earlier one in Newton-by-Daresbury near the junction of Morphany Lane and Higher Lane.

The church has a memorial chapel with a window dedicated to Lewis Carroll. The window incorporates characters from Alice in Wonderland.

It is a lovely church and has a comprehensive website here

We returned to Epiphany and for the rest of the afternoon and evening I wrestled with my ageing, cracking laptop. It is really time for a new all singing, all dancing one! I think it is male, as it finds it very difficult to multi-task.

I suppose that statement is controversial?

Never mind a new one is in sight – laptop that is, not a man!
