Not good news - two days without internet!

At last - a decent internet signal so time to catch up!

Whilst at Whittington we visited Lichfield Cathedral. It is very different to Coventry as it is a medieval building. I am not sure we enjoyed visiting it so much but it was worth a Visit.

Our first view of the Cathedral

As you can see it is very ornate

A Saxon church was built here in 700 at what had become St Chad's shrine, housing his bones. 1085 saw the start of the building of a Norman Cathedral on the same site, followed in 1195 by a Gothic re-build. The Cathedral was severely damaged in the Reformation as it came under siege three times.

Civil War story

The Cathedral was restored in 1660's and then Sir George Gilbert Scott, Cathedral architect from 1856 - 1878, finally restored it to its medieval state by 1908.

This is the remains of the moat around the Cathedral

The imposing west end
