The Ashby Canal - Bosworth to the Coventry Canal

5 hours 21 minutes, 13.08 miles

Today was a day of goodbyes. However, the birds were singing "fit to bust" and it was Angela's birthday so we couldn't be too sad!

We left the Battlefield moorings on another warm sunny morning

As you can see we had them to ourselves, I suspect that is not the case in the summer!

It was not long before we were back at Trinity Marina where we said goodbye to Chris and Angela. Not before a photo call though!

Angela and Chris

The terrible threesome!

We took on diesel at the marina - 57.9 pence/litre and then travelled down the Ashby Canal to Marston Junction. We decided that this bit was the least pretty of all the sections. We also agreed that we would return to the Ashby Canal as there was a lot we had not explored and would like to do, taking more time to do so.

You can follow our journey in photos on our photo gallery starting at Marston Juncton. It is worth a look if you fancy visiting the Ashby or just want to share our experience. Now I would say that wouldn't I ! Click on the arrows bottom right to navigate the page and the icon middle left to change to the next page.

Strangely not long after we had said goodbye to Chris and Angela the sun disappeared and it began to get cold. By the time we turned right, onto the Coventry canal, there was quite a breeze.

We decided to moor fairly quickly and found a sheltered spot, in case, as the forecast predicted, there are strong winds tonight. Tomorrow we will get nearer our first locks for quite a while - we have the Atherstone flight to look forward to on Wednesday!
