The Ashby Canal - Trinity Marina

We had some sad news last week. John's Mum passed away peacefully in her sleep. She had not been well for a while and John and his brother, Pete had moved her up from Cornwall to be nearer Pete and his family.

So we had to do a trip to Cornwall for the funeral and burial in the family grave. This is why Epiphany has been static for a while! You may have noticed that our location has not changed from 0.05 miles N of Trinity Marina!

We knew that we wanted to do the Ashby and "in faith" booked a temporary mooring at Trinity Marina. When we booked it everywhere was frozen up, including the marina and the Ashby Canal. Hence the "in faith" bit! However, the ice cleared and we had a few good days to make our way there.

We had no idea what to expect from the marina and were surprised to see the size of the complex on the site. The service on the phone when booking and the chatty person on the other end had impressed us.

When we arrived we saw that the marina is quite large. We were directed to our spot and settled in. We were moored next to a boat that we had seen on a number of occasions on the North Oxford and Coventry Canal!

So Epiphany was once again "marina bound", but secure, with water and electricity on tap! We were reminded why we moved out of Devizes Marina, seeing boats as far as the eye could see!

We went for a wander to find the post office. It is just along the road, to the left away from the canal. There is also a small local shop there. There are buses to Coventry, Rugby, and Leicester.

The Brewers Fayre restaurant was offering 2 meals for £9 so we decided to spoil ourselves and have a rare meal out! We were very impressed with the service. We have been in so many awful restaurant chains and had to wait for ages. The food in these places can be mediocre at the best of times, but we were again pleasantly surprised! I suspect that it can get very busy with families at the weekend and holidays.

The facilities at the marina include the usual sani station with loos and showers. A laundry, a chandlery with limited stock and secure key operated pontoons. There is even a book swap in the laundry - but accessed by a moorer's key.

So leaving Epiphany at Trinity Marina we travelled down to Cornwall.
