The Ashby Giants

So what are the Ashby Giants? Mythical creatures that roam the canal side?

I named them this and they are none of the above! They appear and reappear along the canal. Sometimes crossing it; sometimes marching away into the distance.

We watched an interesting TV programme last night about sustainable farming without the use of fossil fuel. Apparently, it can be done and will have to be done. We are due to run out of fossil fuels, certainly within our life time. It reminded me of the way we get our power and of these giant metal structures that cross our countryside. A seeming necessity when they were built.

Fossil fuels are a part of the boating way of life. So what would we do? - buy a horse I think! it would be even more tranquil to travel using 1 horse power instead of 45!

Apropos the same subject, the A5 encroached on the Ashby Canal as we got to Lime Kilns, or Limekilns! At Lime Kiln bridge (15) there are 48 hour moorings, all of which were taken. There is an eponymous pub here too.

We carried on as we had a mooring in mind!
