Good Evenings

One of the delights for a photographer (all be it a very amateur one, unlike Granny Buttons!) is capturing special moments at particular times of the day. The changing light, the perfect reflection, an unusual view, or the sun shining and a blue sky highlighting a feature.

This one is a sunset, one evening near Hawkesbury. Sunset near Hawkesbury

Sometimes all our attempts are doomed to failure; others we surprise ourselves with the quality of the photo! Oh, I know that with a half decent bit of software you can play with photos! However, what a pleasure it is when this is not necessary and the combination of human eye and camera lens take a perfect picture.

I have read all the tips, manuals and books with all the jargon! But I still point and shoot without thinking - very occasionally I am lucky! Sometimes with a bit of thought about the composition I am really lucky!

Writing a blog, I attempt to create a "story" and photography has a purpose. By the end of the day I usually hope to have an idea of a title and an angle!

Like all writers - perhaps I shoud put that in inverted commas - "writers" - there is the dreaded writer's block. That is when it is great to have a journey to report. A factual, illustrated account. The bit I most enjoy is the research that I sometimes do to flesh this out.

Regular readers will know that I have an interest in history - hopefully the blogs that contain this are not too boring! I read for a pastime and I love ferreting around for interesting facts! The canals are a breeding ground for this!

However, I started this with the intention of putting up some evening photos! So here are a couple of urban "Good Evenings"

The Curling Bridge is now back here

Professional photographers may turn their nose up at my attempts - who cares? I like them!

Those of you who enjoy a journey blog may be glad to hear that, as the ice seems to have practically gone, we will probably be on the move tomorrow, after the morning service at Coventry Cathedral. It will feel good to get out of the city!
