Amused or bemused?

There are a couple of things here in Coventry Basin that I find amusing.

The first one is this sign

Now there is only one way to go from here and that is North and how anyone can get lost is beyond me! I suppose it does give a general idea as to where one can go from the Basin: to anyone that is not a boater anyway! But then, where is Fradley, where is Braunston to a non boater?!

The second is this

A pigeon loft? In the center of a city? How many cities actually encourage pigeons? OK I am a Londoner so maybe I have an unfair bias against the not so little feathery creatures! I suppose they are not so bad as their cousins

- the seagull

They can take a Cornish pasty from your hand in one swoop and have been known to attack dogs and children.

The pigeon loft in context, nearest and over wharf

One side of the basin is lined with warehouses from the 19th Century, with access from a road behind the basin. See above photo. The pigeon loft is disguised as a wharehouse!

This side of the basin is not for the visiting boat though. It is bemusing that there are mooring rings but "No Mooring" signs. It is this side that has the pigeon loft. Is that the reason? Is it that they are a Grade II listed building and hallowed "turf"?

The moorings are used when there are rallies in the basin. Do they draw lots as to whose is the unlucky boat that moors under the pigeon loft? Now if I was that boat owner, I would NOT be amused!
