Braunston is FTB

Braunston is FTB? Full to Bursting, that is! We were lucky to get a mooring!

What a night, due to the high winds everything that could rattle in and on the boat rattled! The rain poured and the wind blew almost all night. We were securely moored so there were no worries. Everything on the roof is either tied down or so heavy it would take an extremely strong wind to blow it off.

Despite this we actually slept fairly well and woke wondering if the rain would abate, as Metcheck forecast by lunch time. Yet again they were correct; the sun came out as I finished making carrot and onion soup! So after lunch we set off in comparatively warm weather.

Once again the South Oxford canal wandered through hills and fields, newly sown and showing green shoots. Roll on the Spring!

Bridge 101 - where we came from!

The approach to Braunston is heralded by some very dodgy bridges. Their brickwork is in a sorry state. The banks close in a bit and Nb Lucy, waiting for her eventual restoration, lies damply awaiting her fate. So sad, but at least there is hope too!

I took the obligatory photos of Braunston Church...

.......... and the cast iron bridges at Braunston turn!

We turned right, as we wanted water, and then we saw that the moorings were full! Maybe there would be one nearer the marina? We filled up at the sani-station by bridge 91 (the A45 and a very busy road!) and then continued down to the marina mouth to turn. There was room for two boats after the long term moorings and before The Stop House. After winding we pulled up to the end of the long term mooringsand were just tying up, when ..... the man from the last boat "kindly" suggested that we move back a ring as he did not wish us to moor on his chains! Nothing loath we complied!

Anyway we are settled, satellite dish up and a picture established eventually!

Ah, I thought, lasagne for dinner: we have mince in the freezer and lasagne sheets in the cupboard. I laboured long and hard and produced one good enough to photograph, let alone eat! Hmm, why then did John seem surprised? Muggins had forgotten that we had a bought lasagne on Sunday and had the remains on Tuesday! Oh dear, my "little grey cells"!

Here we shall stay for most of the weekend. We await a delivery and John has a meeting! The church bells are now ringing, a lovely sound through the evening air.
