Sunny Cropredy

Moored at Cropredy

It is a glorious morning! Not only is the sun shining but we are moored in one of our favourite locations - Cropredy! Whatever the season, when the sun shines there is a special feel about this part of Oxfordshire. The golden stone of the cottages, both old and new, gleam in the sun. Many of the cottages are thatched, found in clusters and centred around the pubs and church.

Cropredy is an almost perfect canal village, an English village. It has two good pubs, a lovely Parish Church, a Methodist church, school, GP surgery and village shop. The reason it is not perfect? At the moment there is no Post Office. There is a possibility of one but with the news of attacks on local shops and Post Offices, is it worth the potential risk?

Post Offices can be a "social service" in the true sense of the word. It is wicked that so many have neeeded to close. They are a centre for meeting the locals, catching up on news, disseminating news and probably the majority of the population of a village would pass in and out of its door at least once a week.

We have lived in two lovely villages in Cornwall and the Post Offices there were all and more of the above. They also had all the other requirements for "perfect" villages!

So we plan to stay here for the weekend enjoying the hospitality of the village and its residents both on and off the canal.
