Like watching paint dry

4 hours, 19 minutes, 4.79 miles, 9 locks

Our internet connection is very poor tonight - it is like watching paint dry waiting for it to do anything! So a quick blog with no photos I am afraid.

We trawled through ice all day today. A BW hopper went down the locks before us and broke up the solid ice. However there were large sheets of thick ice on the canal all the way from last nights mooring at Marsworth to where we are now, just short of Church Lock near Leighton Buzzard.

As the ice was in the locks too, and we took it in with us, it was sometimes difficult to get the gates open as the ice built up behind them and was so thick. The secret was to open the gates as quickly as possible to get the best momentum to crush the ice! That did not always work though and we had to have two or three goes at it!

As we begn to lose the light we spotted a possible mooring. We had to break the ice to get in enough for me to get off at the stern and then again (with the boat hook) to bring in the bows!

We had both just gone down below when the rain began - good timing eh? Hopefully that means a warmer night and with the cloud cover helping there may be no more ice tomorrow morning.

John has just looked up met check - it will get down to freezing about 6am but the night will feel very cold. Last night we were lovely snugly and warm with our double duvet so that was the answer!

The forecast looks like more freezing weather - are we going to get to Cropredy for Christmas at this rate? I hope so.
