Eureka!

We are still moored below Wide Water lock at Harefield.

If you have received this via an RSS feed you may also have had a few other of my previous blogs. The explanation is that our transfer to our new server is almost complete and I had to put up some of the recent blogs that were lost! But hopefully "Ureka" and we will not be so unavailable from now on!

Out apologies in advance if there are teething problems  - please do let us know if you experience any as John is still tweaking things

So what have we been doing for the last couple of days?

Saturday morning was a "pottering" morning and then I caught the bus back to Uxbridge for some retail therapy and John stayed home to do some jobs! e.g checking the batteries, repairing a bit of damage on the cratch cover and sorting out some storage issues!

This morning we overslept which was a bit of a B as we were going to catch the bus into Harefield for Church - St Mary's. Miraculously we made it in time! It was a bit of a Pilgrimage as John had strong links with the church when I was In Harefield Hospital 12 years ago.

The Vicar was still there and also one of my nurses from back then, who nearly collapsed when she saw me! I have seen her once a few years ago, but out of context it took her a minute to recognise me!

It was the first sunday in Advent so it was an All Age Service and one of the best we have been to. The church was full of All Ages! As there were two birthdays celebrated we know that the age range was 4 - 83 years old!

Andrew (the Vicar) spoke about watching and being prepared - with dramatisation by a couple of members of the congregation. We need to continually remind ourselves as Christians that one day we expect Christ's return and we need to live our lives as if he was coming today. Difficult to do when we all get so busy "doing our own thing".

We were introduced to fellow boaters Nick and Shirley who keep Nb Dragonfly in Harefield Marina. They invited us onboard for a drink after the service and then extended their hospitality to lunch. Practical Christianity in evidence!

We had a great time on Dragonfly, she is one of the David Piper "originals" and beautifully kept despite 2 stretches! Of course the conversation covered the usual boat topics - engines, loos, horror stories and adventures!

This evening has been relaxing with the TV on yet again (and the engine!) - The Hound of the Baskervilles has kept its atmospheric tension, despite knowing the plot!

PS. The weather has been foul! I hope it is better tomorrow. Then hopefully even better on Tuesday when we hope to move on.
