We are off tomorrow, WP

Hooray - we are moving tomorrow, leaving Paddinton Basin behind! It has been useful to be moored here but I shall not be sad to leave. It is noisy with all the building but very convenient to explore from!

I suspect we may return in a few years when the building is hopefully completed. However whilst here I have enjoyed finding more out about its history. I love learning about the history of the canals - so much more interesting than school history. Readers of this blog may have gathered that my hobby spills into the blog too!

Paddinton Basin was opened in 1801, soon to loose it's importance with the opening of the Regents canal four years later. Against the trend, the railway revived it fortunes!

I found this engraving of the junction as it was in 1820 - it was later that it became known as Little Venice and Browning's Pool. You can see the island, bridge and toll house, all still there today.

Compare with my photo of a few days ago!

There are a couple of links that you might like to look at to know more! A WOW4Water lesson and A guide to London Canals.

So WP (weather permitting) we cruise tomorrow. The forecast is sleet/snow so we will see. We have to move on Monday as our requested extension of the 7day mooring to 12 days finishes!
