*NEW* Poste Restante information

As continuous cruisers we do not have a land home. Narrowboat Epiphany is our home, as I tell many an interested passer-by who stop to chat. Now, not having a home on the bank means no address, no post code and nowhere for the postman to deliver our post!

Friends may put letters etc.  in one of these

But how does it reach us - poste restante that's how .....

However it is not only friends who post things to us. Strangely, in this so called "paperless" world we live in, banks, credit cards, magazines, hospitals, GPs etc still all use "snail mail".

Postmen can be helpful in other ways!

These papers can be useful when wanting to prove our identity for car hire etc, Sometimes a paper receipt is necessary; a parcel is sent to us and goods ordered on line need a delivery address. I am sure there are other things that come in the post but I wont bore you with a list.

mail boxes

We do not use mail boxes (or ones you pay for!)

We are very fortunate to have good friends who willingly lend us their front doormat for our post to land on. What we deem as urgent can be opened, scanned and emailed, or the whole lot parcelled up and sent on to us at poste restante. A suitable Post Office has to be identified first.

post office

Post Office in Dorchester - not tested for poste restante!

This is where our *NEW* website pages come in useful - for us, as an aide de memoir, and for other CCers and boaters as a starting point for post offices that accept post restante. Surprisingly, not all do. So bookmark our poste restante page for your own information. We are currently updating it with some more POs we have used and would be grateful to know of more.
