Back in time on the canals

Sometimes I wish I had a time machine so I could go back in time to the "golden age of canals", or canalmania as it was called. But thanks to the internet we almost have a time machine and canal museums can transport us back in our imagination too.

Not a time machine but Lancastrian Packet Boat "mock up"

There is a limited exhibition about canals at Birmingham's thinktank so I am going to take you back there briefly for this blog ......

I was interested to see the storyboard about the canals and the maps of the spread of navigable waterways. They also had a few photos of the bygone days.

When I read the above, I hoped that my time machine was reliable and that it would get me back to the C21st to the relative comforts of narrowboat Epiphany!

If you want to see more click on the photo below and you will go to a slide show - click on the Right Arrow above the gallery folder entitled "Canal History".

Whilst I am back at the thinktank, I have another slide show for you - steam engines and a little extra at the end to bring us more up to date - just! Click on the photo below and follow the same instructions as for "Canal History".

By the way if anyone knows where to get a Hovis bread tin like the ones there, please let me know! I have been looking for a decent bakers loaf tin for ages!
