Christmas lights and markets

We thought we would use buses to get around today in London. Moving around above ground means that you see more of London!

There are a number of buses that stop near Paddington. I wanted to visit Portabello market so we caught the number 23 which takes you right there. We wandered all along Portabello Road looking at the stalls. These range from antiques to tat and from clothes to fruit and vegetables. There were a number of spaces so maybe at the weekend there are even more stalls.

For lunch we had a Lybian Buffet. £3 for an aluminum tray which you can fill with as much as you can from the selection of hot dishes on display. It was really good value and the mix of spiced potatoes, two types of rice, a chicken dish, moussaka and cheesy pasta were all delicious, topped with cucumber and shredded red cabbage. Yum!

We caught a bus again to Oxford Circus and walked down to Hamleys - Christmas shopping. The range of toys is amazing BUT they did not have the card game we were looking for!

The decorations in both Oxford Street and Regents Street are not as good as I remember from years ago! Selfridges has the usual excellent window displays - Father Christmas in a varierty of roles - he is even doing the ironing in one. Unfortunately the rest of the building is still covered inscaffold so there are no pretty lights.

However I loved the Carnaby Street decorations!
