Bulls Junction and beyond, Grand Union

7.99 miles, 2 hours 51 minutes, 0 locks

What a difference a day makes! This morning was bright and sunny with a brisk breeze.
Tesco at Bulls bridge Junction was our first stop, about an hour away. The shopping list grows too quickly - perhaps we should stop eating! Tesco thoughtfully provide moorings alongside the car park. However the accumulation of rubbish there makes it rather unpleasant and despite the 24 hour limit we should not want to stay.

We find the level of rubbish both in and beside this canal unacceptable in a lot of areas. Not only does it cause a hazard to navigation, it has to be a health hazard for wildlife and possibly humans too. I suppose it is the problem with an urban canal - that and graffiti.

Fortunately some young people are trying to educate those that cause the problem.

We stayed at the mooring for lunch - the yummy french sticks tempted us! We then had to reverse back to turn into the Paddington Arm under Bulls Bridge. A perfect job by the helmsman, despite the very strong wind.

So we are now on the Paddington Arm which is surprisingly rural this end. I mean that the houses and factories don't encroach all the time!

Under some of the bridges there are mosaics, created again by projects and young artists.

Some have seen better days though!

Around Willowtree it is very lovely with the autumn colours.

Engineers Wharf, built in 2007, is a pleasant modern development with moorings, some with their own pump outs!

Taylor Woodrow have left their mark, both by the Taylor Woodrow footbridge (19ad) and the towpath (bridge 18).

Bridge 17 is one of the most lovely footbridges I have seen with its carving and shape.

We reached Northolt with the landmark mosque on the canalside. About 10 minutes later we could just see Wembley Stadium on the horizon!

The canal does a loop de loop around Black Horse pub and bridge and then we were into open land and Perivale Wood, with Horsenden Hill on the North bank. It was time to moor before the urban sprawl really closes in through Alperton and Acton.
