A late stoppage, but the canal will soon be open

We have just returned from a "flying visit" to Lancaster - a taste of things to come for us, as we are booked to cross the Ribble Link later in the year. Apart from the fact that we can get our canal "fix" by just looking out of the window when up there, we still had to revisit favourite haunts.

Lune aqueduct

Last time it was the Lune Aqueduct - under restoration at the time. This time where did we go? ........

Some of you may know that the only locks on the Lancaster Canal are the six down the Glasson Branch to Glasson Basin and Dock. The bottom one is having new gates - and the stoppage is over-running! However, it should be open next week I was told, so boats can get on the move again!

Lock 6

Lock 6 - under repair

Apparently the reason (so I was told, again) was that BW found it difficult to drain the canal. They managed it as you can see:

Further downstream, we crossed Brows Bridge 8 to go up the hill to look at the view of the Lune Estuary which leads into Morecambe Bay. An amazing view on a clear day and we were lucky to have some sun, although it was very cold!

Further down the canal is an very interesting part of our canal and sea-going heritage. We wanted to return there too .......
