Fuel, fuel and fuel

So we need diesel fuel to move and for heating, anthracite fuel for our Morso Stove and fuel for our gas cooker. It was time for all three!

Where to get it now we are in Birmingham? .....

Just across Old Turn Junction is Sherborne Wharf in Oozells Loop; they sell all three and have a small chandlery too. With services, moorings, hire boats and trip boats they have a very good business going! We have been there a couple of times in the past.

However, a fellow narrowboater recommended another source of fuel; the big advantage was that they would come to us. That suited us in the wet and windy conditions we have been experiencing since we arrived in Birmingham!

I promised I would feature this very chatty guy on my blog - so here he is:

The Away Group advertises its services well, as its narrowboats are moored all around the Worcester Bar. They run a restaurant boat, day boats, trip boats and even a floating hotel. For us, their service vessel Marston was brilliant.

It was a very wet afternoon - but they were able to pull alongside on the other side of our pontoon

There is our fuel for our Morso on the stern deck

We filled up with diesel at a reasonable price considering other quotes we have had in the last few months (92p/litre without tax). We usually phone ahead to try and find the cheapest option. The price on their website Away2servicemobile is out of date! A full gas bottle was exchanged for our empty one and, with the coal stacked, we were done!

They also can do pump outs as you can see. So now I have done my bit for advertising, I will just say that both Sherborne Wharf and Away2 were services we would use again!
