Another short trip

1 hour 53 minutes, 2.63 miles, 2 locks

Hospitals They are in a time warp of their own. How long can it take to have a blood test and get a prescription filled? Today it took 3 hours. It was glorious cruising weather too.

Hey ho, we got going after lunch but it was clouding up. As we passed Harefield Marina I marvelled at is size and wondered how many hundreds of thousand pounds of boats were tied up in it and how often they are untied!

The canal continues to wend its way between lakes and accompanied by the River Colne, through the Colne Valley.

We negotiated Denham Deep lock (87) through stair rods! Just as we reached the deepest lock on the Grand Union the heavens opened. We both managed to get our wet weather gear on as I brought the boat in - I threw John his waterproof trousers as he was off the boat for the lock! Good job I hit dry land and they didn't get thoroughly wet first! The rain disappeared as quickly as it had arrived and the sun shone!

Not long after the lock the A40 crosses the canal and the Land and Water Wharf is just before the bridge. This is where the gravel barges fill carrying their loads between Denham and West Drayton. Keeping the tradition alive once again.

Soon the buildings start encroaching and we saw Uxbridge looming in the near distance.

Uxbridge lock is pretty in an urban kind of way! I noticed something missing though. No "BWare of the cill" notices, on either set of gates. Vandalised? Taken away? Removed by some kindly boater? Hmm... do we inform the safety police? I think NOT.

So here we are, moored in salubrious Uxbridge, between office blocks together with other boats, 14 dayers to give them the benefit of the doubt!

Will November 5th ever end? More fireworks tonight, who said anything about a credit crunch and recession?
