Such a difference - Narrowboat Epiphany is rocking

I woke this morning thinking - not a thing I do easily in the winter mornings! My thoughts were of yesterday and a remark Ellen made. Steve and Ellen visited us yesterday, Steve is John's cousin and we have all been friends for as long as I can remember. Moored here at Thrupp on the South Oxford Canal we are very near them.

It was really good to see them, but what did Ellen say that set me thinking? ......

As they stood to go, Epiphany rocked (and rolled, I suppose), "Ooo", she said, "its a bit ....." and it is. I woke thinking - we are rocking again - it must be the wind outside. Strange, we did not rock nearly so much when we were here last year. My befuddled brain then realised that it was not possible last year as we were iced-in well and truly.

moored in snow

Epiphany in ice and snow on 19th December 2010 - the other way around on the same mooring as today

Elly, from Narrowboat Dreaming, had found our snowy photos and wrote to ask if she could use some on her blog to show her friends in Australia what it might be like when she and Mick realise their dream and come over next year. They are looking forward to having some snow.

I am not sure they would think that about ice though, as it would mean that they would not be able to enjoy cruising. Couple this with all the associated problems of getting water, fuel and emptying cassettes or tank and winter can be quite hard work. But we love it!

Me, I would rather not be iced-in, as I go stir crazy if we do not move for a while. There is something about standing on the back of a narrowboat that relaxes my mind, energises my perceptions and feasts my eyes. Yes, even in winter.

Christmas decs

Christmas has come to Epiphany, early this year, the tree is up and the decorations

A few more weeks to go - a few more things to do and some cruising, once the stoppage at Northbrook Lock is over. So I am looking forward to getting on the go again, but how soon that will be you will just have to wait and see .....
