Oops, we are the wrong way around!

The South Oxford Canal and Thrupp is a place where we seem to feel "at home", if continuous cruisers can ever call anywhere "home" apart from their narrowboat and its current mooring. Perhaps that is something to do with the fact that we were iced in here for 7 weeks last winter.

Sparrowgap Bridgfe

Sparrowgap Bridge from the south - not a view we are used to!

However our view changed pretty soon .......

We decided that a walk was called for and maybe tea and cake at Annie's Tea Room by Aubrey's (Thrupp) lift bridge 221 and wharf. Passing the Jolly Boatman, we stopped to admire their new addition.

Outside extension to the Jolly Boatman - it has pretty lights and heating too!

We then noticed that the 14D moorings above the pub had room for us.

So John went back and moved Epiphany up from below the bridge - wonderful! It is slightly quieter up here.

Moored up - but the wrong way around

Why the wrong way around? Because last time we had our bows facing the bridge. This time we are facing towards Thrupp Wide and it feels strange. We both have to think which side  the towpath is to get off Epiphany.

The view towards the bridge - not for us this time

Despite the new ownership of Annie's Tea Room, it has not changed. The cakes are still delicious, everyone is very friendly and the fire is still glowing. This gem in Thrupp is worth a visit anytime and is very popular with boaters, walkers and local residents alike.

Something very special is happening at Thrupp over the weeks before Christmas and I hope that I will get some photos to show you soon. Meanwhile here is a clue.
